Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is an uplifting, refreshing and fairytale like new film from the British director Danny Boyle. His 1996 film, Trainspotting is one of my fave films of all time and opened my eyes to small indie films back then. This new film set in India is good but I think its so overrated for a best pic academy award. There were lots of other great films last year which likely deserved to win. But I admit I really enjoyed the film most especially the first half wherein it showcase the brilliant, non pro child actors. One of the films charm is the universal theme of love that every person in the world can relate to. Slumdog has an engaging plot and a creatively done structure in which is commendable enough. The pacing of the film is so good and visually striking like Boyle's most other films. After watching it, it entered my mind that pinoys can also make this kind of film. The whole film could also be interchangeable to our home grown actors and setting. If a simple movie like Slumdog could win the hearts of Oscar voters, I do think that pinoy films can also have a good chance in the future with the big support of financiers and the government. But that's another story....
